What are Madhubani paintings?
As the name suggests, the Madhubani painting originates from Madhubani Bihar. This was the reason who have the kingdom of king Janak and this is one of the reasons that this style of painting is also known as Mithila art painting. This started with the form of “bhitti Chitra” known as wall painting and also found its way to Canvas, cloth, paper, wood, and many more. History of Madhubani paintings
According to legend, a British officer by the name of Willian Archer was the person who discovered Madhubani and returned it to the actual world. In 1934, while on inspection duty, Archer was assessing the earthquake damage that had been done to the homes in Madhubani. At that point, he saw the traditional Madhubani paintings on the walls and started taking pictures of them. As time went on, the walls ceased to be a stable canvas, and the painters began painting on cloth and paper instead.
The specialty of Madhubani painting and how it is done
According to the research, it has been found that the roots of the Mithila art form come from the time of king Janak. When he ordered to decorate the whole city of Mithila because of his daughters Sita's wedding. It includes feminine art forms, which it is previously done only by women, and even today there are women painters to decorate them. This is because these paintings emote their dreams, hopes, aspirations, and Joy when they decorate their houses for weddings.
Traditional Madhubani Art design had Complex geometrical patterns which includes building blocks. However, the inspiration comes from everywhere surrounding the artist. It includes a spiritual element in this art painting because it is related to Goddess Sita and her wedding to Lord Ram. Gradually, this painting started to represent the content that is linked with occasions, religious celebrations, festivals, and many more.
The Madhubani folk art is made up of using colors that come from natural resources like fruits, plants, and vegetables. The color included in the paintings are brighter and naturally occur from pigments like remnants of lightweight that is used to create black and brown colors. Even if they are not using brushes or any type of other objects, rather they would prefer fingers, twigs or leaves to create a painting. Today also, the artist is using a regular brush to make modern Madhubani art.
